An ex-fashion model of the top class at 5'10'' in height, Carey was popular with the top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father was a renowned geologist and awarded the title of Scientist of 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey traveled all over because of her father's work. When she finished her studies at the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she began modeling on the side. The idea caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York.
